What Facial or Skin Treatment Do I Need? A Guide to Choosing the Right Treatment for Your Skin
If you've ever looked at a skincare treatment menu and thought, “I have no idea what I should book,” you're not alone.
Microneedling. Chemical peels. PRX Plus. BioRePeel. Hydrating facials. Oxygen treatments. The options can quickly become overwhelming—especially when you're simply trying to improve something you see in the mirror.
Here's the good news:
You don't need to know which treatment you need.
A good skincare plan should begin with your skin concern, not the name of a treatment.
At Diane Shadgett Advanced Skincare in Orange City, Florida, I help clients determine which treatments make sense based on their skin, goals, lifestyle and current skin health.
Here are some of the most common concerns I see and the treatments I may consider.
Fine Lines, Aging Skin & Loss of Firmness
One of the most common questions I hear is:
“What's the best treatment for aging skin?”
There isn't one treatment that's best for everyone.
For clients concerned about fine lines, texture and overall skin rejuvenation, microneedling may be an excellent option. Controlled micro-injuries stimulate the skin's natural repair response and support collagen remodeling over time.
Another option is PRX Plus, a needle-free biostimulating treatment designed to improve the appearance of skin quality without the traditional peeling and downtime associated with many chemical peels.
For some clients, combining modalities at appropriate times may provide a more comprehensive approach.
My goal isn't to make you look like a different person.
It's healthier, stronger, more radiant skin while aging with grace.
Acne, Breakouts & Congested Skin
If you're experiencing breakouts, the answer isn't always to dry out or aggressively exfoliate your skin.
We first need to look at what's happening.
Your skincare products, barrier health, lifestyle, hormones and other factors can all influence the appearance of acne and congestion.
For appropriate clients, BioRePeel can be a useful option for targeting breakouts, congestion and uneven texture with minimal downtime.
Professional treatments are only part of the equation, however. What you're doing at home matters tremendously.
Sometimes simplifying a routine can be just as important as adding another treatment.
Acne Scars & Uneven Texture
Acne may be gone, but the texture it leaves behind can continue to bother people for years.
Microneedling is one treatment I may consider for appropriate types of acne scarring because of its ability to stimulate the skin's natural remodeling process.
BioRePeel or other professional peeling treatments may also be considered for surface texture and discoloration.
But acne scars aren't all the same.
The type and depth of scarring matter, which is why I don't recommend choosing a treatment based solely on something you've seen online.
Enlarged Pores & Rough Skin Texture
If your skin looks rough or your pores appear more noticeable than they used to, several things may be contributing—including oil production, congestion, sun damage and age-related changes in the skin.
Depending on what I see, options might include BioRePeel, microneedling or professional chemical peels.
The goal is not to “erase” pores. Pores are a normal part of skin.
Instead, we're working toward smoother, healthier-looking skin and improving the factors that make pores appear more prominent.
Hyperpigmentation, Uneven Tone & Sun Damage
Living in Florida means sun exposure is a major consideration when we're creating a skincare plan.
Pigmentation can also have different causes, which means treating every dark spot the same way isn't necessarily the best approach.
Depending on the type of pigmentation and your skin, I may consider professional chemical peels, PRX Plus, targeted skincare and other corrective treatments.
And sunscreen isn't optional when we're trying to improve discoloration.
Without consistent sun protection, we can spend a lot of time correcting damage while continuing to create more of it.
Dry, Dehydrated or Dull Skin
Not every skin concern needs an aggressive treatment.
Sometimes skin simply needs hydration, nourishment and barrier support.
For dry, dehydrated or dull-looking skin, treatments such as my Hydra Beauty Facial or Oxygen Infusion Facial may be more appropriate than an intensive resurfacing treatment.
This is another reason I don't believe in automatically choosing the “strongest” treatment.
Strongest doesn't necessarily mean best.
The right treatment is the one your skin needs.
Sensitive, Irritated or Compromised Skin
This is one of the most important categories.
If your skin is burning, chronically irritated, extremely dry or suddenly reacting to products it previously tolerated, adding more acids, retinoids or aggressive procedures may make things worse.
Sometimes we need to repair the skin barrier first.
Once the skin is calmer and healthier, we can decide whether corrective treatments are appropriate.
Knowing when not to perform a treatment is part of providing good skincare.
Facial Puffiness & Fluid Retention
If your primary concern isn't necessarily your skin's surface but rather facial puffiness or a heavy, congested feeling, facial lymphatic drainage and facial cupping may be considered.
These techniques are very different from resurfacing treatments because the goal isn't exfoliation.
Instead, they're used as part of a gentle approach to facial massage and lymphatic movement.
Can I Have More Than One Skin Concern?
Absolutely.
In fact, most people do.
You might be concerned about fine lines and pigmentation.
You might have acne and sensitivity.
You may want to improve texture while also having dehydrated skin.
This is where blindly selecting treatments from a menu becomes problematic.
We have to decide what to address first.
Trying to correct everything at once can sometimes lead to an overly complicated routine or an unhappy skin barrier.
Skincare is a process—not a race.
What If I Still Don't Know What Treatment to Book?
Then don't worry about choosing one.
Seriously.
You don't need to diagnose your own skin before making an appointment with me.
Tell me what's bothering you.
Tell me what you'd like to improve.
Tell me what you've tried before.
From there, we can determine whether your skin would benefit from microneedling, PRX Plus, BioRePeel, a chemical peel, a hydrating facial—or whether we need to focus on your skin barrier and home routine first.
Sometimes the answer may even be that you don't need the treatment you thought you needed.
That's why personalized skincare matters.
What If I'm Not Local to Orange City?
I created The Diane Skin Method™ for people who want personalized skincare guidance but can't come into my studio.
It's an online skin assessment designed to help take the guesswork out of your skincare routine. I review your skin concerns, current products, lifestyle and goals and create personalized recommendations for you.
You don't need to purchase a particular skincare line from me.
The goal is to help you understand your skin and what it actually needs.
